Comments From Ironhorse Permian Basin Regarding The Largest Frac Sand Train In History

by Khory Ramage, President, Ironhorse Permiah Basin, LLC

Ironhorse Permian Basin, LLC and Fairmount Santrol set the North American Record for the largest frac sand unit train of 151 railcars and 17,469 tons on June 2, 2016. The Ironhorse team was excited about being able to accommodate Fairmount Santrol’s large amount of proppant demand to the Permian basin due to the request of multiple pressure pumpers. Ironhorse had just completed 10,000 track feet as part of their expansion, which commenced the end of January and was complete by mid May. Ironhorse’s existing track infrastructure now sets at 40,000 feet of track. The Ironhorse Team next expansion will resume within the next 6-8 weeks. Late last year, Ironhorse was able to expand it’s footprint by acquiring an additional 160+ acres as well as more water rights bringing the terminal acres to 522 acres, with the ability of selling 7.6 million barrels of cement quality water per year to the oil field when drilling picks up.

Fairmount Santrol has been one of Ironhorse’s unit train customers since mid 2015. “It was a perfect situation to be able to complete our track and give Fairmount Santrol the opportunity to keep up with the demand needed for upcoming frac jobs” said Khory Ramage, President of Ironhorse. Being a unit train terminal has given Ironhorse’s customers an advantage of getting product in and out of the Permian Basin at a better price point. Kyle Ramage, CEO said “We knew from day one we needed to keep building and expanding our rail infrastructure to become unit train capable. We have been fortunate enough to keep expanding our rail infrastructure even with the collapse in crude oil prices.” This accomplishment was obtained by a team approach. Every person the makes up the Ironhorse Team each brings a contributing factor in expanding our terminal or making our operations run as efficient as possible.

The North American Record would not have been set without the involvement and coordination with BNSF and the Southwestern Railroad. The Ironhorse Team would like to say “Thank you for your help.”
