The Mouat Company, Inc. (Mouat), a design build firm specializing in frac sand plants and transload facilities, announces the commissioning of their latest facility, a 30,000 ton (60,000,000 pound) transload facility for Twin Eagle Sand Logistics. Located in Big Spring, Texas to serve the Permian Basin, the facility is designed with six 5,000 ton Tarsco silos and 2 truck scales, each serving 3 silos. Much of the design of the plant is below the surface with deep foundations including 20 piles per silo, 56 feet deep. The operation has added over 20,000 feet of track, enough to stage 2 full unit trains of frac sand.
The rail unload system utilizes a bucket elevator, capable of operating at 800 tons per hour, allowing a rail car to be unloaded in approximately 8 minutes. Trucks can be loaded out on the 2 scales simultaneously with a load time of approximately 7 minutes. Operating 24 hours a day, this allows for over 400 trucks a day to be loaded.
The inventory tracking and control system includes sensor reading of rail cars and a belt scale to record the amount of sand unloaded from rail cars. Sand inventories are tracked based on the data collected from the sand unloading process combined with data from the truck load out system. The facility will ship sand using a variety of trucks including hopper trucks and flatbeds, using a box solution.

The new 30,000 ton storage facility allows us to offer our customers the needed flexibility and efficiencies to be low cost leaders serving the Eastern side of the Permian. Additionally, both Twin Eagle and Mouat were forward thinking in this process, adding design features to allow sand to be delivered by both rail and truck to work with the constantly evolving frac sand market. We have also designed a 15,000 ton expansion for an additional customer, which we are targeting to complete in 2019.”
